Stanford Wins a Record 11th Consecutive Sports Academy Directors' Cup

Standings in PDF Format Cleveland, Ohio - Stanford University has won the 2004-05 Sports Academy Directors' Cup in the NCAA Division I for a record 11th consecutive year. The award is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), United States Sports Academy and USA TODAY to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country. The Cardinal recorded 1,238.75, surpassing runner-up Texas by 164.75 points. Stanford won its 11th straight Directors' Cup with national championships in women's volleyball and women's tennis and was the runner-up in men's water polo and men's swimming. The Cardinal placed eight additional teams in the top 10. Stanford teams placing in the top 10 were women's cross country (5th), women's basketball (5th), women's swimming (5th), women's outdoor track and field (5th), men's cross country (6th), men's gymnastics (7th), men's indoor track and field (7th) and softball (9th). The Cardinal recorded points in the maximum of 10 women's and 10 men's sports. Stanford averaged 62 points per sport. Developed as a joint effort between USA TODAY and NACDA, the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup program is the only all-sports competition that recognizes the institution in each of the four categories with the best overall athletics program.
Winning the national championship in baseball, the University of Texas moved into second place with 1,074 points. The Longhorns also won the national title in women's outdoor track and field and were runners-up in women's tennis. Rounding out the top five are UCLA, in third with 1,067 points; the University of Michigan, in fourth with 1,064.25 points; and Duke University, in fifth with 1,021.25 points.
